I like hondas

No, I'm not a hardcore Honda fanboy (though I was at one point) and for that matter I'm not really an anything fanboy, because in the end, its not going fast that brings me pleasure, its just driving in that manner in general and going fast can be a product of that. Ultimately, I just want to have fun. I like letting the engine wind out, I like shifting, I like heel toeing. My greatest enjoyment is anytime I drive because I'm always determined to further my skills as a driver.

That being said, I enjoy Hondas. They get bad reps because of their wide availability and low price, which in result, typically attracts teenagers and people with lower incomes, which can for the most part (not always the case, so don't bite my head off) mean people that are not knowledgeable in the maintenance of a vehicle or driving practices that are longevity-oriented. You can't go on craigslist without finding dozens of molested or very tired examples of these, but this does not mean that they are hopeless, especially in the hands of someone that knows what they are doing. I am a huge supporter of properly modified civics/ integras/ whatever else. For someone that just wants to have fun like myself, they're a perfect daily. In the case of older ones (pre 2000), you have a car that's light, agile (...enough, better when modified), and are willing to tach up and down without a fight. It gives you a pure driving experience. Extremely simplistic.

Now don't you worry, I'm not a rouge jalop. I love me some RWD vehicles and sliding around is great fun, but FWD is great for people that want to learn how to be fast. You don't necessarily have the option to power over and slide through a corner if you don't get it right. Someone skilled in the arts of driving a FWD vehicle can be wicked fast and to me, that's something to respect and strive for. FWD is the perfect place to start because you're forced to learn to drive a proper line and do all the right things. Many people who are seriously into building and modifying hondas to race, later go on to faster, more serious cars of various make and model. I love all cars, but Hondas were what I liked when I first got into cars and they will always hold a tender love-hate place in my heart.

Below I have linked several examples of great race prepped Hondas. Enjoy.

Some loathe it. But at that point you can't say you hate the hondas sound. You just hate modified 4 bangers. AE86's, old escorts, etc... they all sound like that. But agreed I love it! I embrace every bit of it raspy, bee-ness.

This should actually be a challenge: Find a low-mileage, stock Integra on craigslist

I shall post that as a challenge tomorrow in the morning. You will be listed as an endorser of it.

Thank you, my friend. And the winner of the challenge will win my love. I have spent countless days and countless nights searching for one of these mythical, unmolested Integras/Preludes

95 Civic EX was what got me into cars, and what I learned to wrench on. It was perfect. Simple design, and everything was easy to access.

If I started out with a car like todays cars, I likely would of been too intimidated. Everthing is cramped in the bay, hiding under acres of plastic, and to replace anything requires removing 10 other things.

nothing makes me happier on a crappy day then to enter the highway revving past 8k with my straight piped B-series :D

We'll award bonus points if its stick, as, to my experience, most stock honda's are automatic granny transports.

Agreed, best way to learn about cars. Understanding the principles of these machines are key to building on them in the future with more advanced examples.

Indeed friend :) people write off honda's as slow, econoboxes. And though many times that can be true, those more technical, calculative car lovers that are spoken to by numbers, will never understand the emotional connection involved in something as simple as that!

I love it. Out of the 4 Acura/Honda's I've owned, (two DC4 Integras, 1 CM7 Accord Coupe) I do miss my P.O.S. 1987 CRX Si now. Such paper thin cars, with plastic fenders of all things. More noise than speed but so they're light and love being tossed.

I stripped the worn out, previously smoked in, interior on my Si. Then, ditched the rusted through sunroof and put in a tinted polycarbonate sheet from McMaster. I had hoped to eventually go full time autocrossing with it but I mainly took her out back road hooning during the weekends.

All too soon, I ended up selling it. However, I did finally attempt one autocross with the car. Why one? I found out how hard it is to get parts for the first gen CRX platform and its torsion front/ twist beam rear. Although, I still could've gone auto-xing as is, but that same month I noticed massive blow-by occurring in the motor :(

College student budget = I was stupid.

I love this. Thank you for writing this because most people are very ignorant and only think they know about Hondas. I own 2 Hondas. 1 daily Sedan and a race prepped auto x hatchback. So I love honda. I love the brand in general I honestly think they make fantastic cars.
P.s I work for bmw. I drive bmws all day. Hondas have a feel you can't get with any other car. Imo. Flame on.

No flame from me. I love it all.

But hey sounds pretty similar to me. I'm going to school next year and I'm going to work at being a BMW tech.

Also that was meant to imply becoming a tech, not just straight up working as one haha got a long ladder to climb for that.

Ooh alright cool. I actually do quality control. So after a tech fixes the vehicle (or lack there of) I will make sure they are fixed. So basically I drive all bmws. All I have to say is the cars are very finnicky and most of the time they have to come back several times. But that's off topic. I love Honda

Unmolested Integras do exist! Look for LS/GS/SE Integras that were sold to your regular, non-enthusiast driver. Expect to pay big money for a GS-R.

I really love wrenching. I'll try my hardest to make the job easier for people like you haha. But good stuff, I wasn't really sure what can of worms I opened when I posted this. Not regretting the results.

I want to see if I/other people can find a unicorn though:

low mileage, one/few owner(s), stock, USDM Integra Type-R in white

*sigh*

Honda, what have you done to yourself? You introduced an entire generation to the drug of a rifle bolt shifter, 8K+ RPMs, 4-corner dual wishbones.... all with reasonable insurance, running costs, and knowing you could pass it along to the next guy to appreciate for essentially little to no loss.

My first car was a DC2 GSR, and that car took my interest in cars to a whole other level... I cannot wait to buy another one someday.

Lol yeah when I made an account here I was a pretty big bimmer head. But I've since broadened my taste. Well, more or less, stopped just sticking to one type of car for a while. Now I'm just like if its cool its cool. ha

I love Hondas! I also feel very much the way you do, it grinds my gears how quickly people are to ignore and overlook them solely based on things like the fact that they're FWD. I particularly love 80-90's Hondas, specially 1G CRX/3G Civics... Recently they have been getting a lot of attention.

Here's me showing some stupid project to my peers over 4 years ago about how I was going to get a CRX after High school.

Head over to Honda-Tech and its corresponding marketplace. The ITR sub-forum usually has one or two available every few months. Right now there's a '98 model on offer in SoCal for about $12K with documents, minor modifications (nothing that looks stupid), 134K miles on the clock, and clean title history.

If I had the money this is probably the one I'd go for.
